Wow! Very helpful. I was thinking that exact same thing…in fact I shelved a script I started because I began worrying about how it would be viewed through a script-competition lens when put up against other entries.
“Emotion drives success!” Well said Gordy.
I just entered a script to Blue Cat that help fulfill my need to get rid of all the conservative nay sayers in this country. They don’t die, they don’t change their ways, at least not in this world….they get raptured …yep taken up to a reward, a homecoming with their actual space alien ancestry. Writing is cathartic to me. I just must write what I want to write because even if it never sells, which it never have yet, it is supportive to me
That is the most beautiful advice I’ve ever heard about screenwriting. You rock Gordy! I can’t wait to submit this year.
Gordy, thanks for the reminder. That is real. It makes all the difference – to write of and enjoy an experience that is meaningful. Finding that voice is what brings me back again and again – for art and for sanity. Thank you.
