Former BlueCat Winner Jerry Mahoney

We’re proud to announce that 2009 BlueCat Winner Jerry Mahoney has released a book — Mommy Man: How I Went From Mild-Mannered Geek to Gay Superdad (Amazon link)

jpeg“The day Gordy Hoffman called to tell me I won the BlueCat Screenplay Competition was the last day I held a regular office job. I’d like to say it’s because I instantly embarked on a wildly successful screenwriting career, but fate had very different plans in store for me. My partner and I were only a few days away from becoming dads to twins, and I’d quit my job so I could stay home with them during the first few months. The timing couldn’t have been better. The cash from BlueCat enabled me to spend some quality time with my newborns, and the award gave me the confidence to do something I’d always wanted to do — write a book.

A couple of months ago, another dream of mine came true, and my memoir “Mommy Man: How I Went From Mild-Mannered Geek to Gay Superdad” was released in hardcover and ebook by Taylor Trade Publishing. As a writer, I’m always looking for a great story, and for the first time, I felt like one happened to me. The story of my path to parenthood had everything — humor, suspense and (spoiler alert) the ultimate happy ending, so I knew I had to write about it. The reviews have been great, with Publishers Weekly calling “Mommy Man” “uproarious” and “touching,” and I’m having a blast visiting bookstores and doing readings and signings on both coasts. Now comes the next challenge… turning my book into a movie. I have no doubt my BlueCat experience will serve me well there, too.”
