Two childhood friends confront their diverging futures amidst the heat of a busy Pakistani takeaway.
With MAGID / ZAFAR, we wanted to explore the intricate dynamics between two British-Asian boys, set in the world of a Pakistani takeaway, and captured with the sensitivity and beauty of filmmakers such as Wong Kar-wai and Xavier Dolan.
Luis Hindman
Luis Hindman is a writer/director working across narrative and music video projects. His most recent work is the short film project, ‘Permanent Damage’. Centering on queer relationships, the film is a four-part exploration of love and loss, set to the songs of Joesef’s debut album. Luis’ work was first recognized in 2015 when he was awarded the ‘One to Watch’ award by Into Film, sponsored by the BFI & EON Productions. The jury consisted of Sir Alan Parker, David Yates, and Peter Kosminsky. Over the past 8 years since then, Luis has received further accolades from places such as the BBC, The Academy Nicholl Fellowship, BlueCat, Screencraft, and Sky Arts.
Sufiyaan Salam
Sufiyaan Salam is a writer who works in a variety of mediums, including writing for the screen, prose and theatre. He won the ‘Robert Bolt’ prize for best screenplay in 2018 and his play White Girl was staged at the Bunker Theatre in 2020. Sufiyaan has worked as a junior storyliner on Hollyoaks and script editor for JoJo & Gran Gran. His short story Wimmy Road Boyz won 2nd prize at the Bristol Short Story Prize and was published in 2022. He was a part of the BBC Writersroom Northern Voices group in 2022 and is currently working on an animated series in development with BBC Studios. He is also developing various other television, theatre, and prose projects.
