Kenneth Kamona – 2024 Fellini Award Winner

The Brokers

When his son is snatched from his car by two extra-terrestrial beings, a frantic father embarks on a rescue mission with only a crack-addicted prostitute to help him, unaware that locating his son is only the initial step in safeguarding humanity from a devastating threat.

I have been obsessed with Science Fiction from the time I was old enough to watch TV. My greatest
memory is of me and my young brother draped over a chair in our Living room and never missing an
episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation back in 1987 on my parent’s black and white TV. I wrote my
first book when I was ten, a 100 pages of action and explosions as a release for my over-active
imagination which has only increased as I have grown older and consumed more content through
novels, movies and TV shows.

I am a self-taught Screenplay writer because, unfortunately, my country does not offer any
screenwriting or film courses in our universities or colleges. I mostly learned through downloading
scripts and devouring them. I am also thankful to a dear friend, Sonja Jarrett, who I met online in our
Facebook Bluecat group. She writes excellent scripts and gave me invaluable advice that I applied to
improve my Screenplays. I am an accountant in my normal life but I have never stopped writing.
The idea for ‘The Brokers’ came to me after I watched the first two seasons of the TV show ‘From,’
which I found highly entertaining mainly from the fact that it kept me guessing and I thought “hmm,
bet I can write something like that.”

My script is in the vein of ‘Everything, Everywhere All at Once’ meets ‘The Fugitive’ meets ‘Taken’.
‘The Brokers’ are an advanced race of inter-galactic beings that introduce life to virgin planets and let
this life flourish through evolution and industrialization until, at an appointed time, all inhabitants are
wiped out in readiness for re-occupation by ‘The Buyers’ who are, in most cases, citizens of dying
planets. Earth is a brokered planet, and the appointed time draws near.

The Brokers by Kenneth Kamona is the 2024 Fellini Award Winner. He received the Fellini Award for the best international script in the BlueCat Screenplay Compeitition.

To prevent the buyers from reneging on deals and taking the planets for themselves before the
appointed time, The Brokers have a fail-safe that prevents this. Earth’s failsafe is Detective Chris
Dexter and by extension, his 15-year-old son, Stuart. Both have no idea that they are critical to the
survival of mankind and go about living ordinary lives until one day, Stuart is snatched from his father’s
car by two alien beings. With only the help of a crack-addicted prostitute named Leah, Chris embarks
on a desperate mission to find his son while being pursued by agents of The Brokers and also by law
enforcement who have Chris as their main suspect in the disappearance of his son.

I also write other genres and have draft feature scripts for Action/Thrillers, Drama and horror.
