Eva Everett Irving – 2023 Short Winner

F*ck You

In a world where everyone has turned to euthanasia, a young ballet teacher decides what her future holds.

F*ck You: (Dark Comedy, Dystopia)

Raisa teaches ballet to children–––24 years-old, a winning smile, perfect posture and intolerant to gluten, she is the picture of poise. Yet, the world around her tells a different kind of story. The sidewalks of her city are stained with blood. Dead bodies litter the grocery aisles; Raisa expertly maneuvers her shopping cart around them donning fluffy earmuffs.

Nobody knows why everyone is committing mass suicide. Some say it’s in the water, others say it’s the food. Either way, humanity has decided that now is the right time to die… and thankfully, they seem to be much happier for it.

It’s Raisa’s turn to make her exit. Will she follow the masses? After all, who wants to be the last one standing? Or will she be a stick-in-the-mud? One encounter changes the course of her predictably short and tenuous life, unearthing feelings long forgotten, like how to give a f*ck about life.
